Brighter Winter Crafting with Spring 2017 Colors

Brighter Winter Crafting with 2017 Spring Colors

Feeling uninspired by Winter grays? Brighten your mood and your papercrafting with the new Spring 2017 colors from Pantone!

Finding Color Inspiration in Winter

Winter has arrived, and the world has gone cold and gray. Even here in ‘sunny’ California, there’s only gray as far as I can see. Blah! While the winter landscape is beautiful in its own way, its colors aren’t particularly inspirational, are they? Thankfully, there are many other places we papercrafters can look for color inspiration in winter besides out the window!

One place where I always find great color inspiration, regardless of the season, is the Pantone Color Institute. As I’ve mentioned before, Pantone is the world’s leading expert when it comes to color. They literally make it their job to analyze and report the color ‘moods’ of the world! Twice per year, Pantone releases coordinated color palettes based on their recent observations, particularly of what’s happening in the fashion industry. They’re great at spotting which colors are trending, and which soon will be. This makes their ‘color intelligence’ reports a valuable resource for anyone interested in color.

A few months ago, Pantone released their picks for 2017 Spring colors. With Fall and holiday crafting in the works, I didn’t pay much attention then. With all that behind us now, though, what do you say we take a peek?

2017 Spring Colors from Pantone

Here they are — the Spring 2017 colors in all their glory. They’re bright, fresh, and best of all, there’s not a bit of gray in sight!

Don’t these colors bring all sorts of good things to mind? I instantly imagine myself laying on a beach somewhere with a fruity drink in hand, or hiking through a flower-dotted mountain meadow. Ah — if only!

If similar visions of playing and relaxing in nature come to mind for you, then you’re right on track with Pantone’s thinking. According to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, the Spring 2017 colors are all inspired by nature. As she puts it, they, “fully capture the promises, hope and transformation that we yearn for each Spring.”

Speaking of transformation, I can’t help but notice how drastically different the Spring 2017 colors are from last year’s muted, dusky hues. This new palette is vibrant and energetic, while at the same time peaceful. If it’s any true indication of world ‘moods’, then 2017 looks to be a happy, fun-filled year. What a welcome change!
